Sector «Kondopozhsky»

The ‘Kondopozhsky’ exposition sector.
On the northern end of the island of Kizhi, beyond the ‘Pudozhsky’ sector, there are several ancient log buildings which have been transported from Karelian and Vepsian villages in order to form a new exposition sectors.
The chapel was erected in honor of three sanctifiers – Basil the Great, John Chrysostomus and Gregory the Theologian. Until 1961 it was located in the village of Kavgora in Kondopoga Region. It was built on a hill which was a cross point of three village paths and the centre of the settlement. In 1961, the building was dismantled, moved to the southern end of island of Kizhi and reassembled there (the restoration project was carried out by Alexander Opolovnikov), and in 1977 it was moved further to the northern side of the island, where they planned to form an exposition sector devoted to the history and culture of Northern Karelians.
