Sector «Village of Yamka»
One of the local historic settlements the village of Yamka is located on the eastern lakeshore in the core of Kizhi Island. The village was first mentioned in the chronicles of the Novgorod Republic in 1563 as a domain of a Novgorod boyard (a feudal lord) Nickita Aphanasiyev. The settlement was called ‘Trophimovskaya’ at that time. During a lapse of five centuries it has been renamed more than once.
At the beginning of the 20th century as a result of events unknown up to now, the village got its present name ‘Yamka’.
At present time on the site of the former old settlement a museum village has been made with most of its buildings being moved from different places in Zaonejye. When creating this village, the original coastal layout, and number of houses were preserved. Each of the present houses in Yamka is unique, but all of them at the same time recreate historic panorama of a typical Zaonejye village.
