This type of a house is called in Russian ‘brus’, i.e. a rectangle framework in plan, within which successively are located the habitable part in front, the anteroom in the middle and the section including household areas behind. The structure is rather gaunt, covered with a gable roof. The principal front has two windows and a blank pediment. The main entrance is on the side wall that looks on the road; the porch with one flight of steps is a small landing supported by pillars; on this wall also are located the gates to the household section.
The habitable part is one-storied, under the floors there is no space left. It includes one ‘izba’-room and an anteroom. In the case under consideration the anteroom is left intact; inside there are two doorways to the habitable part and the household section.
There is a Russian stove in the corner to the left of the doorway, the stoke-hole looks on the side wall.
The section for household is one-storied; a mezzanine floor supported by earthed pillars is made above the cattle-sheds.
The portion with cattle-sheds is separate as to the whole house.
The house of peasant Nikonov from the village of Lipovitsi is built of pine logs fixed according to the traditional method with the logs’ ends protruding from the edges of the walls in the corners (a notch joint called in Russian ‘v oblo’).
The roof is board, a nailless construction.
The construction of windows and doorways are three jambs assembled at right angles.
Parts of the roof such as facial boards and ‘towel’ elements feature carvings; the ceiling is noted for hollow carvings.
