Protection status: monument is located on the original site, under local protection.

The chapel of the Holy Spirit and a mortuary was one of the buildings under the principal hospital of the Olonets province; it was build in 1885 and used for requiem services. Two annexes were added to the chapel from the North and West facades while it was in use.

The project and budget for the building were developed by the technicians of the town council Mr. Prushavsky and Ratkov. This is a one-storey wooden building. A tent-top roof atop the northeastern portion of the building is the dominant part of the composition. The decoration is very simple and typical of the buildings of that time. The walls are made of logs and planked.

This is the only chapel of the late XIX c. that survived in Petrozavodsk until now.

During the restoration in 1990-96, the planning concept of the monument was revised in order to turn the chapel into the church, which implies the addition of the altar part. The altar is rectangular in plan and is covered with a roof of three slopes; this roof is topped with a dome and cross that are set on the tent-top foundation. The restoration of the main entrance was not provided by the project. A window was set in the center of the former location of the main entrance, which was the southern facade of the building.

After the restoration, the chapel is used for prayers again. It was reconsecrated in 1997. The church of the Holy Spirit is one of the town residences and representations of His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, archpriest Nickolas Ozolin is the abbot.
