The Kizhi Museum was founded in 1966 on the basis of ensemble of the unique monuments of wooden architecture.

The Kizhi Architectural Ensemble is included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO and enlisted on the Code of the Most Significant Cultural Heritage Sites of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.

Nowadays the Kizhi museum is one of the largest and well-known open-air museums in Russia and in the whole world. Every year about 200 000 tourists visit Kizhi island.

The Kizhi museum is a "brand" of the Karelian Republic. It preserves and presents the monuments of wooden architecture, material and spiritual culture of the peoples of the republic.

In 2010 the 90-year anniversary of the Rebublic of Karelia will be celebrated under the patronage of the Government of the Russian Federation. The museum has created the photo exhibition "Karelia. The image in time" devoted to this significance date of the republic. The exhibition reflects the originality of Karelia. The aim of the exhibition is to show the spiritual and natural phenomena of Karelia, its unique characteristics.

The Churches of Transfiguration of Valaam, Kizhi, Solovetsky Islands, the grandeur of the Kuzova archipelago and stones-seides which are the sanctuary of the Vottovaara Mountain, the cold colors of White Sea and the warmth of the wooden architectural monuments invite the visitors to find out this marvellous and majestic corner of the Russian North.

The author of the exhibition is Oleg Semenenko, the photographer, the Honored worker of culture of the Karelian Republic, the employee of the Kizi museum.

It is a travelling exhibition and it can be presented in the exhibition halls of the Karelian Republic, the Russian Federation and abroad.
