The exhibition is based on authentic materials obtained from the archaeological researches of Kizhi museum, and introduces the culture of the ancient inhabitants on the territory of Karelia, since the Stone Age to modern times. You will learn more about development of the North in ancient times. Archaeological findings tell us about the occupations of the ancient people - from hunting and fishing to treatment of stone, bone, leather, wood, ceramics manufacturing.

Archaeological monuments can be found everywhere on the territory of Northern Europe, more than 2000 of them are situated on the territory of Karelia, including more than 100 ones located on the island of Kizhi and its vicinity. The exhibition presents the findings, which were discovered during the excavation of archaeological sites of Kizhi - the evidences of the ancient past of this small area.

At the exhibition you will also learn about the tools which are used by archaeologists during the excavations.

In the interactive area of the exhibition there is an imitation of "archaeological excavation". Using special tools you can dig out pieces of ancient ceramics in memory of the exhibition pieces of ancient pottery, hold reconstructed tools of Stone Age people (ax, adz, spear, arrows) in your own hand, perform creative tasks.
