Sleeveless jacketDolls in traditional dresses

The exhibition represents samples of ethnographic reconstructions of traditional female costumes in Olonets province of XIX – late XX centuries. The reconstructions were made by students of Faculty of Technology and Design of Karelian State Pedagogical Academy under the direction of Tatyana Yashkova, senior lecturer of Technology Department.

Costumes, ornaments and headdresses are designed and created during the last 6 years. The samples are based on scientific researches and authentic ethnographical samples from museum and private collections. The exhibition demonstrates 20 samples of casual and festive attires featuring local peculiarities, which allows to observe the common clothing traditions at various ethnic groups of Karelia.

The exhibition demonstrates the samples of Russian sarafan clothing from Saonezhye, Kargopol, Pudozh, Pomorye, as well as traditional Karelian costumes from Kalevala and Padany. You will see the sarafan of archaic design – a “gluhoy” (“closed”) sarafan, a Livvik-Karelian striped skirt, а city suit (“two-piece suit”). The clothing construction included the fabric characteristics, traditional decorations and traditional design. You can appreciate the golden and bead embroidery skills of young seamstresses, their knowledge of textile materials, aesthetical taste and creativity.

Also you can see the collection of dolls in traditional dresses.

The exhibition is accompanied by videos of traditional clothing.
