Exhibition «The destination is north» is the fourth joint project of artist Victoria Zorina and photographer Irina Larionova. (The projects presented earlier are “Person, image, symbol”, 2003; “The city and its inhabitants”, 2006; “Poetry and reality”, 2009, Tuebingen).

There is nothing unusual about the interest in the subject of Russian North. Many creative personalities (writers, folklorists and artists) have found their inspiration in the North. North is a native home for the authors of the exhibition. Often we do not notice things around us, do not recognize them as something significant. Everyone has their own path, affection or rejection, their attitude and comprehension of the concept of “north”.

Victoria Zorina and Irina Larionova have created the exhibition that encourages visitors to look at the beauty of Russian North through the eyes of the authors. They share a common subjective view on the North as on an ever changing, light, elusive, illusory, a little mysterious and, at the same time, a visible and vivid image. Real photos taken in Karelia, Vologda and Murmansk regions are harmoniously displayed side by side with abstract art objects and wooden sculptures. This combination of exhibits reveals the image of the North as a special kind of space, a source of inspiration for the creation and transformation and a state of soul.
