In 2009 Olonets celebrates its’ 360th anniversary since it got the status of a town. It is one of the oldest towns in Karelia. It appeared as an outpost, gave its’ name to one of the largest provinces in the North-West of Russia and was its’ administrative, economic and tradeful center for more than a century. Now Olonets has the status of a historic town and Olonets region is a national one, because 62 percent of people living there are Karelians-Livviks.

Next year is jubilee for the Olonets national museum too - it celebrates its’ 50th anniversary. Prior to the following year the Olonets national museum with the participation of the Kizhi museum present the exhibition devoted to the history of this town and traditions of its’ people – Karelians-Livviks. At the exhibition you will see: authentic things, photoes and documents.

Among the exhibits there are: the model of the Olonets tower, the vaivode’s costume, the Karelian sledge, young Karelians traditional clothes. The exhibition also presents local occupations and crafts: platting of straw, gold-work, smitchcraft, weaving.

The extracts of the movie show Olonets known not only in Karelia as a modern town full of cultural innovations, festivals and holidays.
