The Island of Cherny
The island is situated 6 km to the northwest of Kizhi Island.
The island has a triangular shape. The shore is a narrow strip of rubble beach with occasional large boulders and stands of sedge. In the center, there are stands of stinging nettles and raspberries. The island is a habitat of a unique colony of lesser black-backs. The island is also a nesting site of herring gulls, black-throated divers. The nests are mainly made among boulders and sedge, and some nests are under bushes in the center of the island. Similar colonies with the same population density are not found in Russia.
