Kushnavolok Cape
The cape is situated in southeastern extremity of Zaonezhye Peninsula. It is one of few sites of the ripe deciduous forests, which resembles a park bordering on fen to the west of the Village of Telyatnikovo. It is a birch forest with high trees, with admixture of old aspens, solitary pines and stands of various bushes (honey-suckle, snowball trees, dog-rose red currents, bird cherry tree, organy, etc.). Occasional trees of the Karelian birch and lime are of special interest. Grass vegetation forms thick grass canopy. Among them, there are a lot of rare species protected in Karelia – lantern-berry bell, lily-of-the-valley, wolf’s bane, fragrant orchid, bird’s-nest orchid, broad helleborine, tway-lade. There is a rich variety of bird fauna, and species of southern origin, scanty in Karelia, are quite common here (black-headed whitethroat wood warbler and others).
