NATURE OF THE KIZHI SKERRIES

The woods in the center of Bolshoy Klimenetsky Island

The unique forests of Bolshoy Klimenetsky Island include a wide variety of biotopes – marshes, meadows, secondary deciduous forests, rocky areas, fragments of old-growth stands.

In the middle of the island there were recorded 372 species of vascular plants belonging to 230 genera and 75 families, including many rare and endangered species included in various Red Books. Thus, in the Red Book of Russia (1988) are included Dactylorhiza traunsteineri (Saut.) Soo Sl, Isoetes echinospora Dur., Lobelia dortmanna L. presented in the flora of the investigated area. In the Red Book of Karelia (1995) are included 9 species of plants.

Are prohibited all forms of logging, visiting the rocky islands near the peninsula in the nesting period from May to August.

The haymaking on meadows using traditional technologies, limited grazing are allowed.

The inspection within the system of specially designed ecological paths is allowed.
