Exhibition "In a marvelous old house" (January 27 — September 23, 2012)

The exhibition represents the material world of provincial urban life of the late XIX - early XX century. You will get acquainted with the reconstructed interior of an ancient house; will see fragments of living room, bedroom, child's room, dining room and study interiors.

The exhibition will permit visitors to immerse themselves in a steady calm life of a provincial town, relax from daily vanity and become imbued with the modest beauty of old long-forgotten things.

Competition «Stories of the old city» (October 17, 2011 — January 30, 2012)

The Kizhi Museum is holding the competition of short animated films and movies on history and culture of old cities. The competition is open to all entrants who have creative potential and basic skills in animation and video editing.
The results of the competition will be presented to the Museum Computer Festival in the city of Petrozavodsk in June 2012 within the framework of the international conference ADIT-2012 «Cultural Heritage and Information Technologies».

In June 2012 the Kizhi museum together with the NGO "Automation directions in Museums and Information Technologies" is holding the 16th Annual Conference ADIT-2012 “Cultural Heritage and Information Technologies” in the city of Petrozavodsk.
The objective of the conference is information and experience exchange between Russian and foreign specialists in the field of new information technologies in culture, arts and education, preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage through the use of digital technologies.

The exhibition is devoted to the evolution of the objective world of culture and to history of the most common things that surround us in everyday life. You will learn the origin of school supplies and kitchen utensils, toys and clothes, a washing machine and an electric lamp.
A special play space will help the youngest to get an idea of the greatest inventions of civilization.

Days of Russian Culture (27-29 October)

Days of Russian Culture in Joensuu (Finland) will be held on 27-29 October. The main body of the substantial delegation of creative, scientific and social organizations of the Republic of Karelia is represented by the Kizhi folklore and ethnography theatre, masters of the “alive exposition” museum program and research fellows of the Department of Folklore.

Exhibition "Artist and Myth. Personal exhibition of Anatoly Mieszko" (September 30 — December 11)

The exhibition introduces the works of the artist in the field of decorative and applied arts, traditional and author’s forms of musical instruments and reveals the close connection of his works with folk mythology.
The exhibition is accompanied by the films “A skillful kantele maker” and “The word of the master”, sound recordings and creative activities.
The exhibition will run until December 11.

August 27 — The “Heavens” of Zaonezhie (Italy)

The exhibition will be held from August 27 to September 30 in the Palazzo de Lieto Museum, the city of Maratea of the province of Potenza within the Year of Russian Culture and Russian Language in Italy. Ceiling icons are from the collections of the Kizhi Museum.
The exhibition presents original icons from Zaonezhie churches and chapels of the 17th-19th centuries.
The author of the exhibition is Galina Frolova, the objects of the exhibition were prepared by Nadezhda Kuusela, and the designer is Irina Pankova.

August 19 — The Feast of the Transfiguration

The Feast of the Transfiguration is the main temple festival of Kizhi Island. It coincides with the Festival of the Kizhi Volost.
The festival program of the Day of the Kizhi Volost is thematically intertwined with the celebration of the Transfiguration (the Savior of the Apple Feast Day).
Guests of the festival will witness some stages of grain processing (threshing, winnowing).

Exhibition "Ancientry of the Pomor Land" (July 01 — September 25)

The exhibition presents the most interesting items of the material and spiritual culture of the Karelian and Pomorsky coasts of the White Sea. All the items are from the collections of the Kizhi Museum Reserve.

The exhibition is accompanied by video footage about the Pomors.

The exhibition will run until September 25.

Exhibition "Kizhi. The Age of Opolovnikov" (March 04 — May 09)

The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the eminent architect and restorer, founder of Kizhi Museum - one of the first open air museums in Russia.
The exhibition demonstrates original architectural drawings - the first sketch layouts of the future open air museum of wooden architecture. Working drawings, restoration projects from collections of Kizhi Museum will acquaint you with the art of architectural graphics. You will see the original wooden decorative details, fragments of metal roofing from the domes of the Transfiguration Church, aspen shingles and nails and also portrait gallery of Kizhi Island carpenters, who worked under the direction of architect Opolovnikov.

Exhibition "Weaving handicraft in Olonets province. Late XIX - early XX centuries" (25 February — 26 June)

The exhibition represents one of the ancient women's handicrafts. You will get acquainted with the history of weaving, construction of weaver's loom, retrace the process of linen manufacturing beginning from warping of threads and making the loom ready for weaving. Four weaver's looms will demonstrate samples of various weaving techniques: motley flax linen, floor covering, towel with woven decoration, laced flax linen. You will watch the process of weaving of ordinary and complicated patterns on two pedal and four pedal weaver's looms.

Exhibition "Vodlozerye: Land. Water.Sky" (21 January, 2010 — 27 February, 2011)

Personal photo exhibition of Vasily Scherbinin, designer from Saint-Petersburg, is dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of Vodlozersky National Park. Karelian nature shown on the photos looks decorative and touching. His photos appear to be neither affected nor plain. The author doesn’t want to amaze the spectators, but shares his impressions and his personal view.

Exhibition "One Day in the Life of a Zaonezhian Family" (12 November, 2010 — 20 February, 2011)

The exhibition presents one day in the life of a Zaonezhian family in the late XIX - early XX century by demonstrating various traditional household occupations by farmers of various gender and age.
The exhibition creates the world of household items, which are out-of-use now and whose purpose is forgotten nowadays. They help you to get imbued by the atmosphere of traditional living of the past, which is always a facsinating experience.

Exhibition "Flax in Zaonezhye" opened on October 7, 2010 at Kizhi Museum Exhibition Hall.

The exhibition is devoted to traditional methods and standards of flax cultivation originated in ancient times and obtained in Karelia till the middle of the XX century.

The exhibition will run until January 16, 2011.

Exhibition "Museum world through children’s eyes" (17 September — 31 October)

Interactive exhibition for children "Museum world through children’s eyes" runs from September 17 through October 31, 2010 at the Kizhi Museum Exhibition Hall.
The exhibition demonstrates the artworks of participants of different age (5–14), present various art genres (painting, graphics, items of applied arts). The artworks bear the image of the fascinating island, it’s history and today’s life, child’s perception of folk traditions and tangible culture.

“"Heavens" of Zaonezhye” open in Saint-Petersburg

On August 12 the State Museum of History of Religion opens the exhibition “"Heavens" of Zaonezhye” from Kizhi Museum collections. The exhibition is part of the project, which won the grant of “Severstal” company in “Museums of Russian North” competition in 2008.

The exhibition presents 30 unique icons, painted in Russian Northern parts. The visitors will see the original ceiling decorations from ten chapels and churches of Karelia. The exhibition will run until September 26.

Exhibition "Cherishing apparels from the past" (25 June —26 September)

The ehxibition "Cherishing apparels from the past" runs from June 25 through September 26 at the Kizhi Museum Exhibition Hall.
The exhibition represents samples of ethnographic reconstructions of traditional female costumes in Olonets province of XIX – late XX centuries. The reconstructions were made by students of Faculty of Technology and Design of Karelian State Pedagogical Academy under the direction of Tatyana Yashkova, senior lecturer of Technology Department.

Illusions of the Old Town

On June 26 within the Day of Petrozavodsk celebrations Kizhi museum invites visitors and guests of our city to historic quarter which will be temporarily turned into a historic theatre. Visitors are going to plunge into the atmosphere of old Russian provincial town and spectate recognizable, symbolical scenes of urban life and culture of XIX – XX centuries.

Town’s dancings, taking pictures in old-style clothes, townspeople dressed in old-fashioned costumes, handicraftsmen will create the real world of illusions of the past.

Tourist Season–2010 is open!

On 12 May the first ship of the navigation season arrived to Kizhi Island. Kizhi Museum received 240 tourists from Brazil.

Exhibition "Roskin Family. Photorgraphs And Lives. 1904-1941" (07 May —20 June)

The exhibition is dedicated to 90-year Anniversary of the Karelian Republic and the 65-year Anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War. The exhibition presents the dynasty of Petrozavodsk photographers, the Roskin family and their pictures of prewar Karelia (1904-1941 years).

The exhibition displays little-known photos on history of Karelia and Petrozavodsk of 1920-30s from collections of Kizhi Museum, Karelian State Museum of Regional History, National Archive of the Republic of Karelia, personal collections.

The exhibition will acquaint you with the Roskin family, which had three professional photographers.

Exhibition "Carpentry at Russian North" (30 April — 12 September)

The exhibition is devoted to one of the outstanding phenomena of Russian culture.

The exhibition demonstrates all the stages of wooden church erection from laying out a building foundation to the moment when carpenters get their payment, exposes the basic carpentry principles — from timber selection to the most complex wood joints. The visitors will also get acquainted with carpenter’s tool kit, including 25 items, such as an ax, an adz, a drawknife and a borer. Among the exhibited items are original details of wooden buildings, replicas of Kizhi island churches and houses, photos of lost pieces of wooden architecture.

Exhibition "Easter Traditions Through Children's Art" (6 April —  2 May)

The exhibition is devoted to Easter - the great feast of the Orthodox festival calendar. The exhibition presents art works from the collections of the Children's Museum Center of Kizhi Museum and educational complexes of the Children's Museum Center, of the pupils of the Children's Museum studio “Kizhi Palette”.
The exhibition is designed for a wide range of visitors and is timed to one of the most important festivals for all the orthodox beleivers, "the triumph of celebrations", symbolizing the victory of life over death and good over evil.

Exhibition "Journey Into Antiquity" (26 February  — 25 April)

The exhibition is based on authentic materials obtained from the archaeological researches of Kizhi museum, and introduces the culture of the ancient inhabitants on the territory of Karelia, since the Stone Age to modern times. You will learn more about development of the North in ancient times. Archaeological findings tell us about the occupations of the ancient people - from hunting and fishing to treatment of stone, bone, leather, wood, ceramics manufacturing.
At the exhibition you will also learn about the tools which are used by archaeologists during the excavations.

Exhibition "Ancestors’ Testament" (19 February – 21 March)

The Kizhi museum presents a new exhibition of children's art from the collections of Russia’s Federal Art Center "Russia’s Finno-Ugric Cultural Center”.
The exhibition consists of winners’ works of the "Ancestors’ Testament" Contest which was held in many regions of Russia and also from Donetsk region (Ukraine).
The exhibition includes more than a hundred children's and young people’s works in various genres and techniques: painting, drawing, sculpture, articles made of birch bark, burl, straws, embroidery, and dolls in national costumes.

Exhibition "Harmony Of Contrasts. Paintings of Badri Topuria an drawings of Anna Gryaznova" (January 18— February 14)

The third joint exhibition of well-known painter Badri Topuria and a young graphic artist Anna Gryaznova presents landscapes of Karelia and also of Veliky Novgorod, Pskov, Veliky Ustyug.
The name of the exhibition reflects the harmony of contrast images of Russian North which gives shelter to artists and warms them with its particular atmosphere, affects with the stricking beauty of its nature and pieces of wooden architecture, and at the same time meets them with its severe climate and restrained landscapes and architecture.
