State of preparation and fulfillment of restoration work (by 01.01.2008)

The fulfillment of restoration design of the Church of the Transfiguration in 1999–2007 is reflected on the diagram attached.
- Diagram section A:
- steps 1, 2, 3 are done completely.
- Diagram section B:
- steps 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 are done completely.
- Step 9: working documentation for III and IV restoration stages is being developed. The Contractor is a Public Corporation of Research Institute ‘Spetsprojectrestavratsiya’, Saint-Petersburg. Chief architect is V. S. Rachmanov, architect — restorer of higher category. Financing of the design work is provided from the federal budget in concordance with the federal goal-oriented program ‘The Culture of Russia’. The available working documentation enables to keep on working according to schedule for 2008 and 2009.
- Step 10: the equipment has been constructed and Ist engineering restoration tier put on trial — lifting. Lifting equipment for II — III engineering restoration tiers has been designed, constructed and mounted. The equipment for suspending and fixing IV — VII engineering restoration tiers has been constructed and prepared for mounting. The mounting, fettling and testing the whole system of a consecutive lifting engineering restoration tiers within a log framework is to be fulfilled in 2008.
- Step 11: restoration of Vichurin’s house and its adaptation for restorer’s accomodation in Yamka village has been fulfilled.
- Step 12: establishment of restoration service at m/r ‘Kizhi’ has been done.
- Diagram section C:
- Step 13: is done completely. Wood-working equipment for restoration, special tools and outfit have been acquired, assembled and adjusted. Trial restoration of a granary has been made a start to master the method of restoring parts of a log framework of the Church of the Transfiguration. Simultaneously the restoration of original floorings of the Church of the Transfiguration started in the restoration complex. in addition to the measures taken for a complex protection and development of technical safety means electric power supply for the pieces of architecture of Kizhi Pogost in 2003–2006, in 2007 working at the system of inside and external TV — monitoring has been completed, inside fire-fighting modules that use a thin sheet of water have been acquired and set for the mounting planned for 2008.
- Step 15: is being fulfilled. As soon as the whole system of lifting, suspending and fixing engineering restoration tiers of the Church of the Transfiguration is mounted, setup and tested, the disassembly of VII engineering restoration tier with suspending and fixing the remaining tiers on the metalware is planned. The disassembled tier will be transported to the restoration complex to restore and fit-up.
- Step 16: the reconstruction of the basement will start after the disassembly of VII engineering restoration tier. The design documentation for reconstruction of the basement is available in full. The work starts approximately in 2009.
- Step 17: the restoration of the log framework of the Church of the Transfiguration will start at the end of 2008, after the VII engineering restoration tier has been disassembled.
- Step 18: time of implementation have not come. Work will be done according to schedule.
- Step 19: The entry — porch of the Church of the Transfiguration was disassembled in 2007. The permission for this work was given by ‘Rossvyaz’ № 4–7-292 from 14.06.2007. Done: marking and photofixation of 312 constructive units of the porch, their disassembly and transportation to a temporary storage. The restoration of the porch units will be done in the restoration complex in 2008. The original flooring from XVIII — XIX was disassembled in 2007, total number of its parts reaches 1000. All of these parts have been brought to the restoration complex, where they will be thoroughly examined, taken photographs and restored; afterwards the restored parts are to be placed in a special storage before reassembled in the Church. The restoration of the floor parts will be done during 2008.
- Step 20, 21: Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation approved the method of iconostasis restoration in 2006. This event made it possible to start restoration work. A temporary workshop was equipped for this purpose on Kizhi Island in Vichurin’s house (Yamka village), in 2007. Experts from Moscow school of art and restoration worked in this temporary workshop in summer and dealt with the restoration of iconostasis gilded frame. At the same time, working at a permanent workshop for restoring the iconostasis and its equipping have been made started on the ‘Pudozh’ exhibition sector. This task will be solved as soon as electrification of the ‘Pudozh’ exhibition sector, planned to be finished in 2008, is provided.
- The measures planned for diagram section D will be taken according to schedule.
