Federal State Budget Institution “Kizhi State Open Air Museum of History, Architecture and Ethnography” invites you to take part in the International Academic and Research Forum “Systematic approach to preservation of wooden architecture monuments”.
The forum comprises a workshop on emergency prevention activities (September 12–14, 2016) and a conference on conservation, restoration and research of wooden architecture monuments (September 15–16, 2016).
Today the Kizhi Museum is responsible for operational management of 82 cultural heritage sites.It is taking the lead in elaboration and introduction of new preservation methods of wooden architecture monuments. For over 15 years the Museum is actively developing the unique area of cultural heritage monument conservation which is the system of comprehensive preventive maintenance of monuments.It includes monitoring and multi-level preventative measures for wooden architecture monuments.
Modern society has come to appreciating the value of wooden architecture, which triggered an urgent need for undertaking the real measures to preserve this layer of cultural heritage.It is the practical issues of conservation that this Forum will be devoted to.Organized in the year of the Kizhi Museum 50 th anniversary, the Forum will focus on technologies and methods of conservation, research and restoration of cultural heritage sites.
The goal of the Forum is to foster the understanding of importance of comprehensive conservation of monuments as the most effective method of large-scale preservation of wooden architecture monuments. The discussions will cover both theory and practice of preservation of wooden architecture monuments.
The leading Russian and international restorers and experts in conservation and research of wooden architecture monuments will present:
- new technologies of monitoring and preventive maintenance of wooden architecture monuments;
- new methods of research of wooden architecture monuments;
- methods and technologies of scientific restoration of monuments.
The workshop “Emergency prevention activities on wooden architecture monuments”
will offer the participants to get acquainted with the methods of carrying out the activities, and take part in their practical implementation.
Locations: Petrozavodsk — Kinerma village.
Dates: September 12–14, 2016.
The conference “Current experience of conservation, restoration and research of wooden architecture monuments”
comprises plenary sessions, the poster session and the field meeting on Kizhi Island. The program includes the presentation of up-to-date equipment for monitoring of the buildings and elimination of biodegradation hotspots.
Locations: Petrozavodsk — Kizhi Island.
Dates: September 15–16, 2016.
Working languages of the conference: Russian and English.
Forms of participation in the conference:
- Participant of the conference;
- Poster presentation.By the decision of the Steering Committee the reports presented at the conference will be published.
By the start of the Forum the 2 nd revised and enlarged edition of the manual «System of comprehensive preventive maintenance of monuments» will be published (A. Lyubimtsev, M. Kisternaya).
Travel and accommodation expenses should be covered by the sending organization.
Participation fee for the workshop in the amount of 1 500 Rub includes travel costs (Petrozavodsk — Kinerma — Petrozavodsk), conference materials and coffee breaks.
Participation fee for the conference in the amount of 3 000 Rub includes travel costs (Petrozavodsk — Kizhi — Petrozavodsk), conference materials and coffee breaks.
Applications for participation in the Forum (Annex 1) should be sent to the Steering Committee at derevo2016@kizhi.karelia.ru, headed: «Wooden architecture preservation forum» before April 30, 2016.
Abstracts for the poster presentation (1–2 pages) should be sent to the Steering Committee at derevo2016@kizhi.karelia.ru. The Steering Committee will send the applicants the official invitation or the reasonable refusal by May 20, 2016.
