The Church of the Transfiguration

The virtual reconstruction of the iconostasis was based on the «The Iconostasis» Information System. With the help of this system the iconostasis details and their «characteristics» (images, descriptions and catalogue data) are referenced to the digitized basic map of the iconostasis of the Church of the Transfiguration.
It is evident that the virtual version of the iconostasis has some conventionality. The authors did no attempts to make virtual reconstruction of the gilded surface of the iconostasis frame. The iconostasis was reconstructed according to the drawings performed by the «Spetsproektrestavratsia» Institute directly before its dismantling. There are several mistakes in the drawings (in the location of the icons). The general layout of the iconostasis will be corrected by specialists before its actual reconstruction in the restored Church of the Transfiguration. When this work is fulfilled, we’ll present the corrected version in our Internet-site.
